About the Role
As the Payroll Team Leader, you will oversee all aspects of the fortnightly payroll process for over 1,500 staff, ensuring absolute accuracy and compliance with evolving legislation. Your responsibilities include:
- Managing day-to-day operations and the integrity of the CHRIS / Chris21 HRIS and Time & Attendance systems.
- Ensuring all payments strictly adhere to Enterprise Agreements, statutory requirements such as STP Phase 2 and the Superannuation Guarantee, and the modern wage theft landscape.
- Leading the ongoing development and configuration of CHRIS while identifying opportunities for automation to address the "Legacy Systems Reckoning".
- Managing and administering all payroll aspects related to complex employee transitions and lifecycle changes.
- Applying expert knowledge to accurately calculate complex final entitlements and settlement figures while ensuring strict associated regulatory and tax compliance.
- Driving critical payroll-related projects independently, including Leave Audits, STP, and Portable Long Service Leave (PLSL).
- Supervising, training, and motivating a team of Senior Payroll Officers to meet defined service level agreements.
About You
To be successful in this high-stakes environment, you will possess a blend of technical mastery and leadership prowess:
- Significant experience in a complex payroll function is essential, with mandatory proficiency in Chris21 or equivalent tier-one systems.
- Sound ability to interpret Certified Agreements and Awards alongside current federal and state taxation and superannuation laws.
- A curious mindset with the ability to distinguish superficial problems from root causes to implement robust systemic solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal stakeholders like HR Business Partners and external bodies such as the ATO and Superannuation Funds.
- Experience in Accounting or the specific ability to process WorkCover payments is highly desirable.
